What kind of amps are people drawing?

Right, I'm not entirely sure my set-up is perfect but I'm working on it...

I'm flying a H-800 (Hobbyking H-800 Hex frame)

On this I have the following parts....

DYS D4215 - 650kv motors from RCTimer,

RCTimer 45A ESC's,

Tarot Retractable Landing Gear,

Tarot mounting parts to mount the battery plate and Gimbal,

A cheap eBay 2 Axis Gimbal,

Pixhawk FC,

FRSky X8R reciever,

3DR Radio,

MAVLink board and OSD.

And a 4S, 6200mAh Zippy Compact battery....

Now, I'm getting 6-7 minutes comfortable flying time....

I have recently upgraded to Mission Planner 1.3.36 .37 Doesn't work for me?) and loaded Firmware version 3.3.3 so I needed to re-cal' my accels and compasses....

after that I hooked up my amp meter and throttled up to the point it wanted to lift but not quite...

My amps were up at 28ish.... Would that sound about right for a copter with an all-up weight of about 4.3Kg?

  • Calc shows that you need 36 amps to hover. And your throttle is near 60% at hover.

My 800 quad with 3-axis gimbal needs 20 amps for hover. But it has quite efficient setup.

I would tell that it sounds right for me.

You can connect second 4S 6200mah in parallel. As i see in calculations that you will get 9-10 mins with two batteries.

    • Thanks for the reply Vital Belikov...

I really must have a look at my telemetry screen to see what Amps I'm taking in the air...

On the stick, it's only just over half way...

I need to find a way to make it more efficient... I am actually building a bigger battery plate so the second pack is going on... :-)

      • No problem :)

To be more efficient you need to find ballance between low kw motors, big props, light weight and big battery :)

        • Ha! That simple! Lol... ;-)

  • Ah... I knew I forgot something...

    Prop's are RCTimer 13X5.5 Carbon....

The batteries are very new at about 5 full flights plus using them at set-ups....
