What kind of Gimbal do I need for the 3dr Y6 Copter?

Hi Everyone,

I just builted my Y6 from scratch and now looking to put a nice gimbal under it, but I have many questions that I tried to find the answer here, but didn't have any good results. So sorry if I missed some postes.

1. What kind of gimbal fits the Y6?

2. What is the difference between a brushless gimbal and gimbal with brushes?

3. There are 2axes gimbals and 3 axes gimbals, wich one is best?

4. How does the tacking function works? Is it a matter of the gimbal or the APM2.6? Does any Gimbal works for Tracking funktion?

5. What do I need to be aware of, if I buy a gimbal-controller that fits the APM 2.6?

6. What is best, GBL or Tarot? I found a thread about TL68A00 Tarot 2 axis Ralph sugesting buying the Parot Gimbal and on Youtube I found this footage. MC6500 Gopro GBL

7. How do you power the gimbal motors an cam?

So sorry for all this questions, actually I have more but I stop here for the start :-)

Thanks anyway for the help.

    1. Any that will fit. My brushless gimbal needed a special arm to raise it up. One can also replace the landing legs with longer legs.

    2. There really is no brush gimbal. A brushless gimbal refers to the type of motors used to control the gimbal. The other type of gimbals are servo driven gimbals. With servo gimbal your APM controls the pitch and roll. With a brushless gimbal there is a seperate board to control pitch and roll.

    3. 2 axis is pitch and roll. 3 axis is pitch, roll and yaw. 3 axis would have better yaw control, but cost more and weighs more. With 2 axis gimbal your copter provides the yaw.

    4. Tracking works with telemetry telling the ground station where the copter is and then the ground station controls a motorized antenna that tracks or always points at the copter. Why have this? It increase the range you can fly and still control your copter. For most its not needed.

    5. Brushless is a better way to go and it's less strain on the APM. Be aware of weight, the more your gimbal weighs the less flight time you have. Right now my Y6 can't lift my gimbal.

    6. I don't know.

    7. If you go with a brushless gimbal it can be powered with a seperate small battery or directly from your flight battery. Directly saves weight.

    Good luck and fly safe.
  • So, nobody knows about Gimbals? :(
If I found somthing out, I'll post it here.
