Hey Guys,
After reading so much of your posts, I've decided to buy as well a UAV. I'm a GIS engineer and I would like to use my UAV to take aerial pictures. As I'm pretty new to this domain, I've decided to buy the ready to fly UAV sell by 3D Robotics (https://store.3drobotics.com/t/ready-to-fly/arduplane). My objectives are to understand how everything works before I buy a bigger/professional one.
For the aerial pictures, I bought the Canon SX260HS camera. I've loaded the CHDK firmware and I made as well this trigger (http://flightriot.com/remote-sensing/trigger/) to control my camera using apm.
Before I do my first fly, I would like your advice about where is the best place to put my camera inside my plane. There is not a lot of place inside the plane and before I start to cut the airframe for the lens I just want to be sure to find the perfect location. As you have more expercience, I'm sure you will have some good advices.
As well do you know how to trigger the camera to turn it off before the landing in order to protect the lens ?
Thanks for your help
Arnaud

I have a similar plane, a Hawk Sky and i use an Canon Ixus 100 IS. i made a hole in the wing and added self adhesiv velcro on the camera and wing
There is a shut_down command that you can script in CHDK, but it won't work with the simple cable you built.
Just build a flap on the bottom of the fuselage and hold it open with a micro servo until landing.
