Dear all,
at the moment I'm using a Tarot 650 quadcopter with DJI motors, ESCs (E300) and the DJI Naza V2 for taking orthophotos (GoPro). The copter belongs to a friend of me who has built it himself. Unfortunatley this friend is going to move away this winter.
Now I'm planning to built my own copter and would be very interested in your suggestions.
What I want to do with the copter:
1. Creating orthophotos (using pix4d to stich the photos together)
2. Creating pictures showing the NDVI (using a converted Canon S100)
What I expect from the copter:
1. Redundancy in the case of motor, prop or ESC failure
2. Flighttime > 15 min.
3. Enough power to carry the mentioned Canon S100 and gimbal
4. Ability to fly waypoints
5. It would be nice if it could be easily carried over longer distances so a foldable frame would be nice to have
What I don't want to do with the copter:
1. Stunt flying
2. Fly under bad weather conditions (strong breeze)
Since I'm still a university student I have to stick to a tight budget. Even if I already have some experience with the DJI Naza I would prefer the Pixhawk because of its ability to fly waypoints and log flight data without any extra costs. I think that my wish for redundancy and enough power to carry more than a GoPro demands for a hexacopter.
Because this is going to be my first project I thought about using an ARF kit.
I've read many good things about the 3DR Y6 but there seems to be problems with the availability of spare parts. Additionally I'm unsure if the three arm design goes with my wishes for a long flighttime and redundancy (if you touch an object with one of the arms this will most likely damage both props and lead to a crash of the UAV).
The DJI F550 is my current favorit: cheap, well-tried, spare parts available. Disadvantage: It's not foldable
My question is: Which kits beside the DJI F550 and 3DR Y6 are easy to build and recommandable for usage with the Pixhawk?
