Wireless Video Setup

There have been a varying number of threads on this, but the information seems to have changed.

I'd like to set up a wireless video system. I'll probably forgo video for photography, but nevertheless I'd still like to see the CCD image on a laptop as I fly so I know when to snap a photo.

Can someone provide a straightforward guide to selecting and setting up a video feed? I already have a 2.4Ghz radio system, and will add a 900Mhz Xbee module. Does this limit me to a 5.8Ghz downlink?

As I understand it here's what I need:

  1. Camera
  2. Onboard Transmitter
  3. Ground Receiver
  4. Connections from the receiver to the laptop

The problem is that I can't find anything that really suits my needs.  The closest I've gotten is http://www.hicam.com/ ...has anyone used it before?

Thanks in advance. If I can get this working I'd like to put a more detailed guide on the Wiki.

  • You should definitely check out readymaderc.com. He sells wireless video systems at all freqs, ships fast, and has an awesome reputation. 5.8ghz is an option, but I suggest 1.28gz because its not as susceptible to multipathing.

  • I think the 5.8 ghz seems to be the best option for range and lack of interference. I plan to use telemetry so the 900 mhz and 2.4 ghz frequencies are off limits.

I had looked before on RangeVideo but missed the 5.8ghz tx/rx modules. They're pretty cheap so I might try them out.

Kernal Panic: I'd rather keep communication on the forum so others can benefit from it as well. Do you have any suggestions?

  • I found a link to this site in another post on this website. They seem to have a large range in prices. http://www.rangevideo.com/

I found your post because I'm searching for the same info your looking for..

I think from I have read so far staying away from the 2.4ghz video equipment  will keep your TX controller happy.
