Worth a try?

I'm really fascinated by the idea of having my own UAV in the air. But I'm not only wondering where I should start but if it's worth a try.

Aims:
  • Building a quadcopter
  • Equip it with a camera
I would like to fly an DSLR (0.9 - 1kg) but as a start I could live with flying just a small cam. I don't need GPS and so on but it should be possible to integrate such features later.

Right now I am a total newbie but I have a lot of patience and planned the first take off in next summer.

I guess that the biggest problem is the money. I don't want to spent more than $500 and need to buy everything. Is that worth a try or will I end up with some useless parts and no money left?

I looked into the German "MikroKopter" which seems to be a good start  but I can't afford the 1200€ for a basic set (without remote and other needed parts). Is it possible to archieve my goals with the "AeroQuad"?

I'm not a quad guy, but I did read through this post, which I believe indicates that a finished ArduCopter would be well within your budget. Here's a link.

    Good Luck and keep posting.
