We have the Xbee pro 900mhz and after not having used the ardupilot board or Xbees for a couple of months, we connected everything to ensure functionality and are unable to get them to connect. We have tried using the unbrick procedure outlined on the wiki site and have also verified all baud rates are correct with no luck. The only thing different from the last time the Xbees were used is we loaded the newest version of the Fixed wing code. Assuming that we have followed every step to the letter and that every connection is sound what would be the next possible problem for the inability to connect?

Like Johnny said, perhaps the two units are too close to each other to connect when testing. Increase the distance or remove the ground ducktail antenna. I did not even realise one can decrease the power.
I always check for a green light on the ground Xbee, then I know it's connected to the plane-side. If you don't see this, reprogramming helps me, though you say you have been trying the unbrick procedure.
What Xbee pro wire are you referring to?
I assume you've matched their VIDs?
