Xbee range

I have been using the Ardupilot for a while now with Xbees 2.4ghz 60mw and the other day i flew out to 1.7km and the rssi was at 70 - 80% and then i fly the same route tonight and the telemetry pretty much drops out at 1.5km. I haven't touch the setup during that time the only difference i can think of is the other day it was overcast and tonight there were no clouds at all. I am flying over very hilly terrain as well

same problem i have..my range drops to 800 meters then signal strength cut-off..dont know what to adjust if there is any.
