Y6 to Standard Hex - not enough lift

hello,

i've had my 2013 3DR Y6 for a while now, its had a few rough landings and now the landing gear breaks for any landing. 3DR is being dumb about selling me replacement parts, shocker, so i'm switching the frame up to something else, from a company that understands the hobby and supplies replacement parts.

/end rant

i got everything except FPV gear transferred over. motors spinning in correct direction, all sensors are calibrated and returning good readings. ESCs are calibrated, radio settings dialed in. System checks pass, copter arms fine.

Except, it only gets about 1-2 feet off the ground, and seems to struggle to stay at that height.

things i'm probably not doing right:

- still running 3s (5000mah)

- still using 10x4.7 props (from y6 build)

so, should i go to 4s?

will that solve the issues, or should i also bump the props to 11in?

if 11in props are the answer, what pitch?

will the esc/motors be able to handle 11in props?

or should i use a different prop size for 4s (aside from 10 or 11in)?

(PS not interested in discussing 3DRs meh business practices)

    Hi,

What frame did you switch to, and what's the all up weight? Are you using the motors/esc' from the 2013 Y6(850kv/20A)?

I have a 2014 3DR Y6B that uses the 850kv/20A 3DR combo and I'm using the stock 10x4.7 props APC props. The AUW on my vehicle with GoPro/Tarot 2D Gimbal and FPV equipment weighs in at 2.54kg (5.6lb) and seems yo perform well on 4S 6000mAh batteries (about a 7 min flight with about 20% reserve).

If you answer yes to all the above questions and your AUW is less or equal to the weight listed above then I would say it's probably a 3S/4S issue. The weight of the new frame is heavier than the old one right? If the weight is more than what I listed above you might need to either reduce weight or get a different power package.

Do you have any way to measure the internal resistance of your batteries? If your internal resistance is too high you may experience poor flight performance despite proper setup.

    Regards,
