Does APM 2.5/2.6 support V Tail mixing plane models?

Hello,I'm totally noob on arduplane but i want to get going on a FPV EPO model such as this one : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__47714__Talon_FPV_V_tail_Drone_EPO_1718mm_Kit_.htmlThis model does not have a traditional tail with rudder and elevator; it is a V Tail that needs to be controlled with a aileron+vtail elevators mix.Does APM firmware supports this config out of the box ? Or do i have to modify the code?ThxHugues

  • Well, you have your answer :-)

I set up my Talon about 2 months ago, as per the wiki ?

And it flies just great, no mission yet, just doing some stabilize tests now !

  • It's the way the tail moves and the reversing that may need to be done. You'll see when you start messing around with the parameter. You'll pull back on the stick and see one tail go down and the other go up or something of the sort. Just remember the tail is PUSHING into the turn. Not trying to roll into the turn back there.

It took me about 15 minutes between reversing on the radio and setting the correct setting on the APM. It takes a bit of time to think through it, but once you have it you're ready!

    Thx for your answers.
@Scott,since you r using the same model, would you have connection diagrams of the APM, servos and the plane's control surfaces?
I would also be interested by your radio channel config ( I have a t9x and a taranis)

You can also use a hardware mixer such as this one to simplify the setup.

  • Yes the APM does support VTail as I'm using it on my Talon. For me it was easier to flip to the advanced window in MP and select the mixing I needed. You do not need to mix in the radio. However you may need to do some reversing in the radio to get it to work right.
