GPS stopped working

I have an APM1.4 that I use in a bixler and never had a problem with GPS. Now all of a sudden it's not reporting any satellites. The blue light goes solid but MP reports zero satellites no matter how long I leave it plugged in. I tried 2 other GPS units and same problem. Solid blue but MP reports nothing. I have an APM2.5 on a quad and it reports the GPS fine with the same MP.

I'm using ArduPlane 2.6 but was using 2.4. I have the same problem with both versions. I've also changed out the GPS cable but it didn't help.

Is there something I can test or see in the log that would help diagnose this?

  • OK I've setup another APM1 and installed arduplane 2.6 and connected 3 GPS units I have and I'm having the same problem. Solid blue on GPS but only solid yellow on IMU and zero sats reported in MP? It's like it's not recognizing the GPS at all. Like I don't have one connected. Also I can't get into terminal mode with this one either. I press return 3 times while the text about initializing is coming up and it just ignores me. Do the 3 returns have to be done during a specific part of the boot sequence or anytime is ok?

I've tried everything and have reinstalled 2.6 countless times and done erases but I can't get GPS recognized or enter client mode. What else can I do here or is the only option left to send back to the store to get checked? I'm not in the US so sending back is not an inexpensive option. Also I don't think something suddenly went wrong with 3 GPS units and 2 APM1 that had been working fine.

  • It looks like I'm not getting the correct light behavior. It seems to think I don't have a GPS connected. Maybe that is the cause but why would it not recognize the GPS? I've tried 3 different units and they all get solid blue light but APM1 doesn't recognize it. The status light I get after the usual boot up is the yellow light stays solid but the red light never flashes indicating it's getting GPS lock and never goes solid either. It just finishes the boot sequence and is in the mode of ready to fly without GPS.

  • Maybe it's because I'm using a 1280? Is client mode supported on the 1280?

  • I found WIPE EEPROM with control F. Is that like erase in client mode?

  • I'm also having trouble entering the terminal. I get the arduplane 2.6 text and them it goes into demo servos and then calibrating IMU. Is that all normal? No matter how much I try (3 returns) to enter CLI mode it just ignores me and eventually starts outputting a lot of text like it's not in client mode. Today I did another install of 2.6 but I would like to go into CLI mode so I can do a full erase and reset or is that done during the normal setup process or during the firmware update.

I also can do some GPS testing in client mode? The GPS is solid blue but my antenna tracker and MP report zero sats. How can I see the GPS stream? Only in Client mode?
