Suggestions ? My Y6 tries to fly backwards!

Hi Folks!

Long story short, I purchased the parts, assembled my Y6, it worked flawlessly until I got it tangled into the top of a tree.

A motor and two arms later (and some nuts and bolts - the fiberglass was stronger than the metal scews 3.5 and 3 mm long, which got bent, along with the aluminium arms), my Y6 is ready to fly again.

I get out, start my Y6 up, and it tries to go backwards. I get it up on air (half meter) and it goes at full speed in backward direction and tries to turn uspide down.

Coincidentally the motor I changed is in the black arm (the one pointing backwards). The new motor (880kv) is purchased from 3drobotics, where the whole kit comes from.

At first I thought that the second motor on the black arm was "slow" (maybe it got hurt on the tree crash, somehow) so I exchanged it too (I purchased two extra motors) ... but same behavior.

If I pull the forward stick at full length, It manages to "counteract" the backwards intentions of my Y6 and it feebly rises, but with little control. So it is not a solution.

Can this behavior be

1) Different motors being delivered ?

2) broken ardupilot

3) damaged ESCs ?

any ideas ?

Thx! btw I got a video of this behavior ... I am about to upload it into youtube... stay tuned!

Enrique

  • I had a similar problem after a crash, may or may not be the same.

In the end I bent a couple of motor mounts, that had two motors pointing slightly backwards. So to fly properly I had to push stick fairly much forward. In fact couldn't really straighten the mounts completely, so to compensate had to do a manual processor trim.

Straighten everything up as much as you can. If it still acts up, set your radio trims to center, before arming, put the copter on the flattest srface you can find and hold the left stick in disarm postion for greater than 10 seconds. Lights cycle a bit, and then it should be ready to fly.

This is with MagaPirate on a CRIUS V1, but I think the function is in all the Arducopter code (or no?)

Just make sure that your APM or autopilot hasn't loosened and isn't vibrating too. After a crash sometimes, it's another bird altogether!!
