A New Flight Mode

I was flying my quad yesterday and It nearly hit me!  This is simply because I'm a pretty rubbish pilot, but on the upside I am getting better at flying these great machines.

This got me thinking......

....  The APM code has geofencing to prevent the quad from leaving a defined area, can someone code a fence around the operator so the quad can't enter and injure the operator.  A kind of artificial force field.

I was thing that RTL or LAND mode would override the internal geofence as typically the operator would be coming to the end of the flight and be more alert.

Thanks for reading

  • You cannot "Pilot Proof" the code........

Some copters, such as the Yuneec QX-500 implement this, but in my experience it leads to even more dangerous behavior because when you set it to return to launch and happen to be standing near the launch point, it lands further away, and that can be in a tree or near other people. In general such no fly zones around the operator leads to unpredictable behavior, which is always a bad policy.
