Hello all.
I'm new to the group, what is the longest flight time and speed you have achieved? I don't know weather to try to build a Quad or buy one? No one can tell me what the average is.
Any responses are welcome and appreciated .
Thank you
John

Sorry it has taken so ling to get back, finals week. 2 days to go, do any of you have anything to show of your builds? This is very interesting, trying to learn what I will need. If I go the fixed wing route, how do I figure my motor size, max payload & battery size to get max flight time, which is the most important item. The glider appeals the most as a fixed wing option. I love helios, as I used to fly gyroplanes. So where do I start on getting the calculations for my build?
Thanks
John
Thank you both for the great info. The long trip is by an ATV, so it is pretty rough and rocky, it looks like a fixed wing, hand launch, belly land would be the best option. There is no place in that area to launch otherwise. That was the reason for the quad idea. Electric is the best option for me. Can you suggest an inexpensive setup that can be upgraded? I'm sure the learning curve would be difficult, but thanks to this forum, it will be a lot smaller. Are there any members in New Mexico, that you know of?
Thanks
John
IMHO, the average flight time is ~15 minutes, best you could shoot up to 20 minutes. Want more, go to 50 minutes? Build a very light frame with a more efficient motor, with larger props, would cost more time and money $$$$.
Speed: Avg. ~40 kmph (depends)!
If you are new to building quads (like how I was a year.5 back), be cautious!. Get a Ready-To-Fly kit if you dislike 'some' soldering, if you love soldering and a bit of electronics I would recommend to get the (3DR) or similar kit and start building (you learn more). For me soldering, electronics and writing software is fun - so got the latter - Now it flies better than I thought!
Moto: Learn and then make the dive. Don't dive first and then learn :)
Grz..
