Issues Arming ArduCopter

Hi everyone,

I recently finished construction of my 3dr ArduCopter kit and began calibrating the electronics. I used the CLI to calibrate my radio as the GUIbased one didn't work, but other than that, everything went without a hitch. I finished calibrating the ESCand everything seemed successful. All the tones that were sounded corresponded to the descriptions of the correct sound on the internet, and at the end of the calibration, the motors spun when I increased the throttle (as expected).

I then turned of the APM 2.0 and my transmitter (the Hitec Aurora 9) and turned them back on. The tones emitted from the ESCs were correct (a musical tone, followed by three beeps and then another beep), but when I tried to arm the APM by moving the left stick to the bottom right position, nothing happened. After several attempts and multiple different positions of sticks, the red light continued to flash and the quad remained unarmed, so I tried to find the source of the problem.

I plugged in the APM to my computer and used the CLI to read out the PWM information. The movements of the stick corresponded to the correct outputs (according to this article https://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_First), and so I knew that my transmitter was and receiver were functioning correctly, were correctly hooked up to the APM and that the APM was interpreting the data correctly. I have tried erasing the data and re-configuring the APM and ESCs, as well as reversing channels but nothing seems to work.

I have the 3dr ArduCopter kit, with an Optima 7 receiver, Aurora 9 transmitter and the APM 2.5.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful for any help.

  • This is - throttle down, yaw right, yes? You may need to trim down the throttle; you need to be in 'stabilize' mode. You need to hold the control position for 4+ seconds.

My Futuba RC has throttle on the right stick, so just 'left stick down/right' isn't necessarily correct!

Can you get it to arm from the APM screen?

Have you tried calibrating ESC's individually? I had to do it that way, & reverse my throttle control.

  • In the Mission Planner, check the flight modes.

You need to arm the copter while on Stabilize mode.

Also, could be the trim in the radio? that has happened to me.
