Motor part mystery

My six hexa motors came this weekend with an x-shaped part that is not included in the arducopter assembly instructions. Are these optional parts or do they serve some important function?

    No, not for the multicopters. They are used for mounting onto aircraft that are not set up to have the screw mount directly to the motor. You can use them to set up motor balancing configurations in a workbench, etc. But you won't need them to set up your copter.
