Recommended Turnigy 9x firmware: default, er9x, or gv9x?

I'm just getting my 3DR AC2 up and running with an APM2.  I have the ubiquitous Eurgle/FlyMax/Imax/Turnigy 9x R/C transmitter.  I know many folks flash the er9x firmware to this transmitter for use with quadcopters.  Since the arrival of the new APM2 board, I haven't seen much discussion on the benefits of this and whether the alternative gc9x firmware (which is supposedly tailored for ardupilot mavlink) provides any advantage.

Any recommendations from those of your who have tried these (or are beyond my noob status)?

    I just recieved my turnigy 9x. I am still in  the transition from from a spectrum dx6i and would be curious to know more about this too... Would be a good forum topic I think...
