Backward driving on startup

Hi all,

I hooked up my robotic platform to an apm running ardurover today and at power on it drives backward at full speed.

The platform uses skid steering and I am not using an rc controller so its either the apm seeing the low rc inputs thats doing it or during initialisation it starts with low outputs, I believe the latter.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

  • I power up the APM first, wait for it to inialize, then power the drive system. I believe you are right, all outputs start out low. For a forward only ESC that is stopped, but for a bidirectional ESC that is full reverse.
  • If you bench test it, what do you see for throttle? High PWM?
    Motors direction correct? Sounds like the motors are backwards, should be going full speed forward?
