New APM 2.5 user questions and comments

Firmware tab:

I just received the APM 2.5 with plans to install in a rover.  The Getting Started instructions tell me to open the “Firmware” tab.  That tab does not exist on the version of Mission Planner that I just downloaded and installed.  I did find the firmware function elsewhere (can’t remember where ATM).  I think the instructions may need a refresh to match the latest MP.

Manual:

Is there any way to get a PDF of the current manual?  I’d like to have a copy to take to the field with me so I can look at it while keeping MP open on my laptop or tablet.

Telemetry  vs. Multiple APM :

I will add Telemetry to this APM 2.5 installed in my rover.  I plan to install a 2nd AMP 2.5 in a quadcopter in the future.  Not sure yet if I’ll use the XBee or 3DR 433 MHz.  I know the XBee can differentiate nodes using the My Address (ATMY)  and Destination Address (ATDL) AT Commands.  I assume I could set each remote XBee to a different ATMY Command and make a change in MP to the ATDL Command to communicate with either the rover or quad.  Is that the case?  And is there a similar feature in the #DR 433 MHz units?

    @Falcon,

    If you are using MP 1.2.57, then the firmware uploading is now done in the Hardware Tab.

    If you want to load the latest ArduRover2 beta firmware then go to here: http://firmware.diydrones.com/Rover/latest/ and click on the amp2/ file and then download the .hex file to your desktop, Now go to the Hardware Tab and click on the Load Custom Firmware and direct the loader to the .hex file on your desktop.

    Since this is DIY, there is no Manual in pdf format, only the ArduRover Wiki.

    I believe that the 3DR telemetry radios only work in the peer to peer mode unlike the Xbees which can work in the Mesh Mode. I have always used the Xbees in the peer to peer mode. If you use the Xbees, make sure that you put in a transmission delay at APM bootup to prevent bricking your Xbees.

    Hope this helps.
