Spartan Project: Extra Terrestrial Lab Project

Hello guys, i am not new to rc projects, but i am new to arduino stuff.

I have a life long project in hands that i wold love to get it to run.

I am talking about a hybrid Rover controled via APM 2.5 and RF.

This rover is intent to be a lab and transporter.

First of all it is a lab, like the mars rovers from nasa.

Secound, it will be a transporter for a tri/quadcopter.

I am gathering all the hardware for the first part of the project, it is a lot realy.

In this mockup that i made is the sketch of what i think it could be.

But as i been reading, there are a lot of you guys here that know much more abot this than i do, so all the help and design that you could send is very well received.

  1. Is it going to be powered by Solar panels: Need to know what king and voltage/wattage that will need.
  2. This solar panel will have a charge controller, that will charge a 12v acid battery, and will provide power to all the hardware and rc gear.
  3. The car will be controlled via APM 2.5 primarly controlled via 433Mhz telemetry, and via RC Rx in emergencys
  4. Will have a arduino uno (or other) that will be the laboratory, controlled via 900Mhz telemetry
  5. will have a dedicated Rx to control 2 servos/landing gears to open doors of a box that will have the tri/quad inside
  6. Will have 4 + cameras that will transmit via dedicated Vodeo Tx with OSD
  7. APM 2.5 will have 3 Ping sensors for object avoidance
  8. All RX and Tx will have a booster (If there are any to RC Rx)

Any help and sugestins will be very well received.

RC CAR

Now i will show the RC car that i have for this projec:

Kyosho Rock Force

Tha side metal Chassys will be double the size the it has now.

This drive shafts will be very easy to enlarge too.

The most dificoult part would be find a 1:4 axial.

The original is 1:10.

THIS IS A MOCKUP lol

Will be controlled via Joystick (Logitec)

VIDEO TX

Does any video Tx support more than one cam?

Is there any switch?

APM SENSORS

APM 2.5 support sensors?

Is there a limit?

Use Maxbotix MB1240 acoustic sensors

  • All parts arrived final, assembly pending in a few days.

Thomas i have been out but i am back again.

For starter i will assembler the ardupilot board and start testing with it.

    Parts arrived:

    Ardupilot

    433mhz telemetry

    Turnigy 9x Tx and Rx

    MinimOSD

    Arduino Uno Rev.3

If my testing goes well i will start ordering the missing parts and start building the copter box.

After a few brainstorms, i will be fitting a tricopter instead of the Ardrone.

I already have the motors and kk control boards, i think next wekend i will start building the rover.

  • Just a thought, APM 2.5 has the ability to be to be controlled by a Joy Stick or Computer Game Pad via Mission Planner software with out the need of a RC remote over Telemetry.  That being said, you could just by pass the need to purchase the 2.4Ghz Tx/Rx, an just pickup a USB game pad or joy stick to plug into a computer.

    @Joao,

Nice to have you as a member. Quite an ambitious project!

Unless you plan to go slowly, the Parallax PING sensors do not have sufficient range (<2 m) for avoidance except at very low speeds around 1 - 2 m/s. We are presently using the Maxbotix MB1240 acoustic sensors and they are good out to about 7 m. At 5 m/s, detection at 3 m will just barely avoid an object.
