Auto hand launch, something to try!

After seeing this Auto launch countdown, I liked the idea of having ten seconds to put your Tx on the ground, pick up the plane and then wait for the motor to spin, before launching.

It seems that CONDITION_DELAY function works in FLIGHT PLAN menu in APM Planner in the COMMAND column.

This way one can first delay the first command from happening (for instance TAKEOFF) and add the corresponding countdown sound in FrSky Taranis. 10 Second Countdown.wav

I intend to try this out next week, once done, I will post the results here, if you can't wait, try it out for yourselves!

  • Well I had a go in the field, but found the delay option was not enable for a mission that was automatically generated using the mapping helper? I need to look at this when I have more time.

    I managed to launch by putting my RC Tx on the back step of the Land Rover and flicking the switch with my left hand whilst holding the plane in my right, then quickly throwing the plane as the motor spun up.

    You can see it here, Owthorpe-launch.

    I will do some more work on this concept, here is the delay setting I was expecting to see;

  • Interesting idea. I will be interested to see the results of your testing.
