Hello,I bought an Iris+ with the gimbal, Black Pearl FPV and a GoPro in 2015 and used it to take a video of my farm.--After the initial activity in 2015 (my first experience with a drone), I was busy with other things, so the drone sat on a shelf (in it's case). In 2017 I brought out the IRIS+ again, and discovered online that 3DR was out of business-- and I could no longer get parts--so I thought I was just totally out of luck with this drone and put it back in the box.2022: I got out the…
Read more…well today just wasn't my day.I wanted to video some today of a lake near here that is soon to be refilled after the dam was replaced for the 2nd time. I preflighted my IRIS+ and even flew it around the yard some, it operated flawlessly. so i got ready and went to the lake. I put in my battery, waited for the IRIS+ to give the green light.i took off, flew around the perimeter of the lake some, and then headed offshore ( no water yet, just the streams ) i get about half way over the lake and…
Read more…I have an Iris + using a Spektrum satellite and DX9 radio. I can only get the Iris to arm and motors run when the Iris is connected to my computer via USB (plus with LIPO plugged in of course). If I go through this procedure without the USB cable attached, The Iris will initialize, LED will blink green, safely button pushed, stick right down on radio, LED changes to yellow and alarm goes off. It will also turn from blinking green to yellow without attempting to arm if I just leave if for a short…
Read more…Took Iris out for some flights yesterday and still flies great. But the USB port on my GoPro 4 Silver seems to have failed for charging and data transfer... but strangely still worked for Iris+ FPV. So the battery is dying and who knows how long the FPV will function even if I get an external battery charger.Question: are there any other cams that are compatible with the Iris/Tarot setup? I am reluctant to get another GoPro 3 or 4 since they seem to have fragile USB ports... and I don't…

After attempting to get my Iris+ going again after a few years there were several things wrong...the PX4 FC would not calibrate the accels/gyros. Maybe if I had used an old 2015 version of Mission Planner the process might have worked...Upgraded to the latest version of Arducopter: 4.2.1 Copter. After executing the calibrations - everything - the bird flew well; however there was no telemetry back to the controller. Trolled every RC forum, twice, and saw that many IRIS+ owners were experiencing the very same issue - lot's of guessing, fixes for other telemetry systems, but no fix. The bottom line is a single parameter change "fixes" the 3DR telemetry:
-in the LATEST MP (after selecting and configuring Copter 4.2.1 (2022)), find the parameter SERIAL2_PROTOCOL. Change the "2-Mavlink2" to "3-FrSKY". Telemetry now works.
Another major issue seen multiple times is the inability to "Tilt" a Tarot gimbal using the umbilical provided by the IRIS ... again, after extensive search there is lot's of speculation, but no hard answer. On a STOCK IRIS+, do this:
- In Setup (MP), go to SERVO OUTPUT, and observe Channel 6, with IRIS+ connected by USB or SIK radio to MP. Fire up the controller, and you should see the green bar PWM indication for CH.6 vary as the Tilt knob is turned. If seen, proceed.
- In the CH.6 dropdown, select RC Passthru.
- In a stock IRIS+, gimbal tilt PWM is passed via AUX 1 output on the PX4, also known as Servo9. In order to link the CH.6 PWM to AUX1, do this:
Again in Full Parameter List, find Parameter SERVO9_PARAMETERS. Replace whatever is there with "56 -RC6in"
Write parameters to IRIS+
---
All the above assumes the use of the latest Copter firmware for a V (not X or +) frame. At this writing, Copter V4.2.1, as well as the latest version of Mission Planner.
I hope this eases the path for the remaining hardcore IRIS+ pilots who have rediscovered their bird.
Finally, a big Thanks shoutout to the developers of Arducopter, who filled some black holes! You guys rock!
John
Not flown my Iris Plus for some time. Just checking it out. What is the latest firmware everyone is using well?

At this price($399), I normally would jump in and grab a few. However, knowing where 3DR is heading, I have stocked up enough spare parts to build few more Iris if I have to. Also with the price drop of phantom 3, I kind of moving back to DJI. Therefore I will save the fund and wait for 3DR to unload Solo.
Good job, Steve. I picked one up, too. I have only one other Iris+ so I am one crash away from being grounded. Good to have backup and spares going forward.
Ray, thanks for the tip. I ordered one, and they only showed two left! Now I own 4 Iris+, 2 still sealed in box! Hell of a deal, especially when you consider what just the Pixhawk goes for.
Just a heads up... B&H has a special on remaining Iris+ for $399. Might not be a bad idea to pick one up for spares if you intend to stay with Iris for awhile. Parts seem to be getting harder to find.
Armen, I was kind of forced into a DIY frame when the IRIS got stuck in a tree and while trying to free it plummeted 60ft breaking 2 arms and blowing up a motor. It took some time to get the ESC to fire to the proper motors. I finally got it to hover last night. Next to get a full flight in once it's not 20 below.
I am trying to add a discovery buzzer to my Iris+, it is a receiver type, I am very new to the hobby. I have done many searches to find out how. I don't understand. how to program the transmitter for the switch I want to use and the receiver channel I have it on.
If I could get some help I would be greatly appreciated
