Has anyone else had this problem;

Battery fully charged, droidplanner reporting correct battery levels. Then I fly it for 7mins or so, battery % drops to approx. 50% as expected. Disarm the quad unplug the battery shut everything down, then plug everything back in arm the quad. No droidplanner reports 98% battery power.

I arm the quad and take off, in droidplanner the battery % drops down to about 85% then the quad goes in to land mode (like it does when the battery is low).

It very unsettling that droidplanner is reporting incorrect battery %.

I havent checked but does the FlySky Transmitter report the Quad battery voltage in the LCD screen?

  • From what I have learned: The battery voltage % in Droidplanner is based on the mAh consumption since connecting the battery over the maximum configured battery capacity (BATT_CAPACITY parameter).

    So when you connect a new battery to IRIS, it will always show as 100%, even if that battery is "empty". When you then start drawing current, the drawn mAh are divided by the parameter value for BATT_CAPACITY. As an example: If that parameter value is 3500 and you drew 350 mAh, Droidplanner will show 90% battery remaining. Irrespective of any voltage.

    Because of I'm not using the percentage information in Droidplanner anymore as it's not that useful. Instead I keep an eye on the voltage and return home or land when a certain voltage level has been reached. That voltage level depends a bit on the battery. For the stock 3DR battery that voltage level for me is 10.7V (I need to be on the ground before 10.6V).
