First Mission with APM

I tried a simple mission today with APM 2.0 without success. Not sure why or what I did wrong. Iris did not want to take off clearly. I tried twice. The two back propellers were spinning much faster than the front ones which resulted in tip and flip.

No damage done. I switched off my laptop and shut down APM and re-armed and all good.

Any ideas? Can someone explain the process that happens when I set up a mission and send the co-ordinates? Do they get sent to Iris? Or are they just saved within APM? When I delete the waypoints, are they deleted from Iris or just the APM?

  • Ive noticed if on soft ground (like grass) it pays to make a quick take off. If you start slow 2 of the legs can catch/rub the ground, and if any sideways/front motion happens it can flip. Or sometimes not all the props quick in together.

This can happen from an auto take off also.

So I generally start in stabilise to launch fast, then to althold/loiter.

If you hit "SET" in the APM planner it transmits it to your iris. You can double check by clearing theAPM waypoionts and pressing "GET", It will redraw whatever WP the iris is storing.
