GoPro connectinon to FPV

Has anyone found a 3rd party y-cable or a cable with a switch to connect up the GoPro?  It is really annoying to have to pull it off after every session to keep the FPV from draining the battery.  Not to mention always having to pull it to charge it or otherwise access the USB port.  I charged up the GoPro and installed it last night and when I went out for some morning flights it was dead.

BTW Iris flew like a champ after my recent crash and repairs to replace broken arms.

  • Here it is. Look at note in the bottom right corner of this image.

  • I removed the plastic casing on the end of the cable where it plugs into the GoPro. I replaced that casing with a thin layer of electrical tape. Now there is enough space between the GoPro and the gimbal to remove the cable and even get at the SD card.
    • But I should mention that I'm not sure why your battery died. With the GoPro off (including wifi) it should not have drained your battery. It never does that for mine.
    • It has to be the FPV somehow draining it.... I dunno.  It has happened twice.  I guess one thing I could try is to remove the cable from the FPV board after I land.  I'll have to look at mine to see if I can visualize your access mods.

    • I'm using a DYS 3 axis, so the spacing may be different from whichever gimbal you are using. I will look for a picture I posted on this site some time ago and link here.
  • Good news on those arm replacement repairs.

Yeah, what I do is charge the darn camera with the power lead of the supplied GoPro cable, since even getting my spare battery in is a PITA. I use a tweezers to get the darn SD card out/changed.

My Sony AC is less hassle wrt payload maintenance, but the GP is better supported. Always trade-offs.
