Iris loses altitude in Alt Hold mode

Has anyone noticed their IRIS losing altitude while moving or turning in alt hold mode? If I leave it to hover in place then it does a decent job, not moving more than a couple feet up for down depending on wind. However as soon as I start/stop moving I will see altitude drops as much as 20 feet sometimes. Anyone have idea what my issue might be?

  • yep. It seems like forward movement does it worse. This weekend I was going to try and tune that. I looked at the common problems posted below. Nothing in that list applies to what I am seeing.

It can maintain altitude perfect in hover or very slow movements. The faster you go the more altitude it loses with the same stick position as you had in the hover. If you try to give it more left stick while moving it doesn't seem to help until you stop moving. I have been completely avoiding alt hold because of that. Now that I need to use alt hold I guess I'll have to figure it out. This weekend I will duplicate the issues and upload a log file.

    • Well at least I'm not the only having issues with that mode. Please post here if you make any progress, I'd love to know how to stomp out this behavior.

    • This weekend I'll tune on it and let you know.

  • Have a look at #5 in the Common Problems list of AltHold (http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/altholdmode/#Common_Problems).

But 20 feet appears a bit excessive. Do you have a log file for flight?

    • Thank you, that sounds like my problem. I will try their solution and see if helps the problem. I'll also grab a log next time I see this behavior.
