Can't connect to Pixhawk in an Iris+ - no comm port [SOLVED - READ REPLY FOR ANSWER] - PIXHAWK

I have connected previously.

Windows 8.1 as Administrator

All comm ports working - tested with Arduino

Turned off Antivirus

Removed all drivers and DroneCode related software I could find in Programs.

Rebooted with shutdown.exe /r /o

Installed QGroundControl

Drivers seem to install fine.

Connect PixHawk: lights and beeps

No comm port!

Tried 4 different cables (tested on other devices for power/data and they work)

I've googled and gone through everything I can find, even going back to APM drivers just to see if that would work. Uninstalled everything, re-installed QGC.

Still no joy.

Any thoughts or search phrases you can think of?

Welp, finally figured it out:

Windows 8.1 needs updated FTDI drivers. 2.2.16

http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

Why the old drivers stopped working is a complete mystery.

I recommend getting the setup executable in this section:

WHQL Certified. Includes VCP and D2XX.
Available as a setup executable
Please read the Release Notes and Installation Guides.

Unplug your pixhawk, run installer, reboot, then plug it in.
