Waiting for GPS - Solo won't fly

Solo waiting on GPS for hours. Never able to lock on so no flying. Solo requires GPS signal to fly even when in the Android app under advanced you set "Enable Advanced Flight Modes" which supposedly allows "fly without GPS."

I have done a factory reset - held down power and fly, re-paired controller and Solo, re-updated software but no luck.

As you can see from the pic below a GPS signal fix was available on tablet:

In the picture below you can see the yellow icon at bottom left of screen which indicates "Waiting for GPS..."

Has anyone else been able to solve this issue?

Disappointed 3DR would make me wait till Saturday when they are closed to download Android app in order to update to be able to fly. Received Solo on June 3 had to wait till June 6 to update and now have to wait till June 8 to speak with tech support. Odd they couldn't ship with updated working firmware.

      Hi Ken,

Got it. I'll double check to see if we got your logs, but I bet we did.

In the meantime, are you comfortable doing a little unscrewing? Totally up to you!

If so, try this, to check if the GPS is plugged in.

There is a low chance that the cable connecting the GPS unit to the rest of the system somehow came loose at some point.

We have instructions on how to check the GPS hardware in section 9.5 of the user's manual.

Basically, by gently prying off the GPS cover and removing the battery tray, you can look inside Solo and see if the wire connector between the GPS and the rest of Solo is fully clicked in.

Let me know if you decide to do this and what you find! Again, absolutely up to you if you want to check this.

    • Hello Jeevan,

I was reading the 3dr Solo manual last weekend.

Today, the Solo manual at http://3drobotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Solo_User_Manual_v... is throwing a 404 error.  I cannot find the manual with Google either.

    • Hi John,

I found the manual here: http://3drobotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/DraftB.pdf

You need to watch for changes - here is an example:

Then in Ver. B this was stated:

    • Thank you Ken.  I will download the manual this time.

And thanks for the heads up on the minor changes.

    • Manual seems to be gone now - 404 error

    • Try http://3drobotics.com/kb/solo-user-manual/

The manual URL keeps moving around

    • Hi Jeevan,

OK, we opened it and found the following:

We have pushed the wire so it is in the plug and off to try again!

    • Solo is ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to the park to fly!!!!

      Thanks Jeevan!

    • Hi,

Would it be possible to dis-assemble this unit a bit more and post hi-res pictures of what is inside? :)

It would be really awesome. I am just quite curious to see it and will unlikely have a unit in my hands until fall or even later.

    • Hi Paul,

I doubt my son would let me  - he is absolutely enthralled with it and can't charge the battery fast enough to get back out flying!
