Hi,
As I plan to also fly at night, I have been googling for NAV/AC lights and found those ones which look very good. Also, the manufacturer sits in Europe which is always nice if you do so yourself :).
I was emailing them about usage of their products on an UAV for actually purpose-usage (as opposed to just being pretty) and that was their reply:
Thanks for your enquiry. A number of our customers are using our lights on UAVs for
orientation and collision avoidance, including the BBC's experimental camera plane
UAV. Our lights have been tested as visible at 700m distance during daytime, dusk
and night time visibility will be much farther than that. If you want to make absolutely
certain that they are visible, you could double up the light modules on the wingtips
etc - the controller can easily handle the power requirements.
Added to my list!

I have recently fitted these Navigation lights to my Scratch build - I have not tested them, I have the following fitted:
wingtip lights
white Strobe on top of fuse
Red strobe underneath fuse
They are pretty bright, the picture does not do them justice, I'll let you know if they are any good, I have put them on as I envisage it will be winter before I finish this off, and no doubt the maiden flight will be at dusk, and I will need a bit of help for orientation whilst flying manually
