About Me:

Long-time interest in flight, space and R/C modelling. Currently living in British Columbia, Canada. Moved to electric r/c from gas a few years ago before the new lightweight Li-Poly batteries available. Prompted me to start measuring propeller performance data and write software for analysis of powertrains. Interested in control theory and long endurance flights.

James Canova replied to James Hall's discussion Kalman Filter
"Hi James H.,

Here is a web page of mine that outlines 'state' estimation using a Kalman filter: http://www.canova-engineering.com/Canvkalm.htm

Kalman filters can also be used to combine data from multiple sensors to provide a 'best 'estimate of…"

"Howard,

I searched through the ~1,900 presolved powertrains generated by the FlightSolver program. These powertrains are generated by the FlightSolver program according to minimum performance criteria and battery and motor current and voltage…"

"Hi Mike,

What a coincidence. The Cable's are relatives on my mother's side. I just spoke to my mom to figure out what the relation is. I think, roughly, my mom and Morag's late husband are third cousins. My mom is over this side of the world…"

"Howard,

I found the name of the paper on the coaxial propellers, unfortunately, I did not keep a copy of the document itself.

Here are the details:
'An Experimental Investigation of Low Speed Single and Dual Rotating Propellers', Ronald Helmut…"

"Howard,

I think that I have a paper on coaxial propellers, I will try to dig it out today.

I'd be interested to compare results with you. I'll be travelling today so I will see if I can find the paper on coaxial propellers tonight.

James"

"Howard,

It looks like you are using a couple of APC propellers. How it your machine performing. I have measured some propeller performance data for APC props for electrics up to 16" I also have some software to match props, gearboxes, motors and…"

Since I started flying r/c airplanes in the mid 70s when I was in high school I always wondered about the selection of propellers and glow engines for a particular airframe. After a long break from r/c, I built a couple of electric powered models in…
