About Me:

I'm currently active duty Coast Guard. I want to develop a low cost UAV with as many COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) components for life saving and security applications. Not so much "big brother" stuff as simple patrol options for places like the huge ranches in south Texas, life guard stations on large heavily trafficked beaches, or any area where there are very few personnel and ridiculously large areas of space to cover.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I would love to see UAV capable of flying a 300lb payload from the scene of a car crash, the deck of distressed ship, or remote mountain hiking path. Out of curiosity has anyone considered using the 77GHz collision avoidance radar module from the grill of the Toyota Prius for, well, collision avoidance?

"Howdy

Thanks for the links and the advice!, big help! Resolution isn't so much of an issue really. I just need to be able to pick out people from deer, cattle and the occasional irate badger. "Irate badger" seems a bit redundant now that I think…"

First off I want to say that I am very impressed with the work that is being done through this group. I was going to use a gumstix computer but the idea of using a cell phone was genius. Anyway, getting to the point. I was curious to know if anyone…
