Simon Bull replied to andy j's discussion Use the DNT900 in place of an XBee -- open source adapter board
"Any progress with this project?   I had spotted these modules too and was about to order some from Digikey.com when I came across your thread.   Are you still going to make some adaptors to fit into an xbee carrier board?   Why not just make a new…"

Simon Bull commented on Chris Anderson's blog post DARPA creating its own DIY Drones--"UAVForge"!!!
"The double edge sword of open source. If you share information, and put it out there for others to use and add to, the creative gain is awesome. But you cant control how someone will use it. I faced this a year or two ago with a project i worked on…"

Simon Bull commented on Brendan Rackley's blog post My UAV project in the works, pt. 2
"I see you have a 2.4Ghx Xbee set up in there likely to transmit your control signals? Ive just built a similar system. I found xbees work fine for doing vehicle control, but they have 2 things to consider:

Simon Bull commented on John Arne Birkeland's blog post Long range R/C control and two-way telemetry
"@John: Yep, good tips, and well done on your version too btw. I calculated as you have done that 9600bps is pretty useful and good enough for what we are doing. Ended up with 38.4kbps purely as i was experimenting with baud rates vs errors and thats…"

Simon Bull commented on John Arne Birkeland's blog post Long range R/C control and two-way telemetry
"I have built and use a similar system using 60mW xbees running at 38.4kbps. I know this has been tried before by a few with mixed results, but im pretty happy with it. It is much shorter range than what you have (range test i get about 200mtrs max)…"
