Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I recently found the site and got hooked. I want to have a go at a flying UAV but can't fly, yet. So decided to get a rock Crawker and set it up with the ArduPilot Mega and play with that for a while till I learn the ropes.

"weather has been crap and transit of Venus now has priority but,  I've got the APM1 in and connected.  I'm using 2 RC systems.  One for the pan/tilt camera system and one for the crawler itself. The one for the camera may also be used for an…"

"ok, got off track there for a while.  I finally got the APM2 and it's awesome.  Bench tested on the work bench (aka kitchen table) and it's very nice.  Way smaller than the previous version and after I worked out the problem with the cable, …"

"I totally agree with Mark.  I thought the whole purpose was to work out the point of "click the camera" by means thought out by yourself or stolen from someone else,  then compare to say, google earth, and work out how close or far you were away…"

"G'day Mark,  ok the other alternative is to get a small cheap camera and do some minor surgery.  Digital cameras use a switch not a mechanical shutter release.  Carefully dismember the camera and remove or bypass the push button and solder a set of…"

"G'day Mark,  here's the best of the lot.  I use this one for my astro gear.  http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/dslr/CanonRelease.html
The only problem I can see for those using plane or copter is the size of the camera you can put in the beast.

"G'day Mark,  if the camera can be fired using an electronic( not mechanical) shutter release cable,  it means that it can be operated by using a simple switch or a servo switch. There are a couple of different ones and I'll try and find an example…"

"With it's top speed of a good walking pace,  I think it would have to be a serious situation to put it to the roll over point.  With sooo much weight down low at the wheel level,   I found it has a very low center of gravity.  I've had it happily…"

"can Rovers have a go with a camera on a really long stick.  Seiously though,  what if a rover went out 100m,  took a shot of a white disk on the ground and then returned to home.  Did that 5 times from different positions or the same home position.…"

"here's the APM1 and assorted bits mounted in the Bixler cockpit unit ready for adding to the rockcrawler.  As you can see,  there's plenty of room on top behind the camera to add it.
I'll be doing a video of the beast going through it's paces later…"

"g'day guys,  here's my rock crawler that is being set up for auto pilot control.  I've ordered the new APM2 from DIYdrones and will need to start picking peoples brains for help.  :)  I've got the older version of the APM and it's setup in the…"
