About

About Me:

My name is Stuart Robinson, GW7HPW. I have been experimenting with small ISM band transceiver modules for several years as beacon transmitters or GPS trackers for locating lost RC models, and also for long range low Earth orbit communications. Recently I have been very impressed with the capabilities of the Semtech LoRa devices, the range is just so much greater than previous ISM data devices like the RFM22B. I have worked with a variety of micro controllers, initially with native PICs programmed in MikroBasic, then with PICAXEs, Micromites and more recently with Arduino.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Very long range tracking.

Stuart Robinson commented on CSG's blog post 433MHz Super Long Distance FHSS LoRa Wireless data modem with USB UART 5+ km range
"One of the issues with using LoRa in the unlicensed 433Mhz ISM band (which is NOT a Worldwide allocation) is that to get stable performance without using an expensive TCXO the bandwidth needs to be 41.7Khz or above, this then normally limits the ISM…"

"Nice looking product, good size.
I have done a fair bit of real world LoRa testing to see how it performs in practice, you learn so much more that way. My main interest has been using LoRa for tracking and for this 1000bps is adequate.
With good…"
