Hmmmm, if the intent was to use copper pennies, you didn't unless you used pre 1982 mint dates. Pennies have been copper plated zinc, not solid copper for along time.
The Calif* equivalent is someone else's quarter, borrowed using home equity you once "earned" in an overvalued, soulless mcmansion located 60 miles/3 hours away from your now-ex- job.
Spray them with high temp paint they will perform better. As is they are a good conductor but a poor emitter. You are not getting your money's worth ;)
