3 axis Camera Gimble connections.

CAMERA_APM2.jpgHey guys i recently got the APM 2.5, when looking at the pins, I saw A0 - A11 Pins werent being used and i did not know what they were for so i was googling and found a PDF that stated

A0- Sonar/ Ultrasonic A1- Voltage Sensor – Attopilot
A2-Current Sensor – Attopilot
A3- Optical Flow Sensor
A4-Motor LED
A5-Motor LED / Buzzer
A6-Motor LED
A7-Motor LED

So After researching for some time, I have found that for a camera gimble A10 is roll and A11 is pich but there was no explanation of were Pan is connected (YAW).So I i dug some more and found some consensus to the following :
Currently Mission Planner shows that we have 3 axis so would be good to update that. I suspect (haven't check the code) that PAN goes to A9 but that is just a guess.
Anyway, I lack one wiki page on those extra outputs, what can be connected to them. So we have A11, A10 (and A9?) for gimbal, A1 and A2 for AttoPilot? current/voltage sensor:.

So after my post was denied several times as being " a request for assistance" let me rephrase, What is your guys experience, have you tried A9  and it worked or not, what other solutions have you tried?

  • just go to mission planer camera gimbal part and assign whatever pin you like for pan,i can confirm it does work...

    They are cool, but how are they will work with APM 2.5...

    Thats the question. What problems can i have?

  • You are not alone Sebastian, I will make new graphics in the manual to clarify this!

  • Sebastian, It's true that the labels printed in the case don't perfectly align with the pins. Due to the close spacing of the pins it's difficult to get the labels aligned and still be legible. NOTE: SPI is the label for the last two sets of pins.

    I didn't transfer the Jdrones example setup, but it isn't really needed for this.

    Of course, some of this is what it is supposed to do not necessarily what it actually does.

    I should have said "the simplest".  I was really just trying to explain why the old copter wiki had different information than the plane wiki.

    Two operator systems have 3-axis control of the camera almost as a rule. 

  • Hi Robert, OK maybe not typically, but by far the highest percentage.

    And a lot of the ones with pan also have an ability to see or preview what they are filming, because it is very difficult to know where the camera is pointing from the ground if you don't have a direct visual reference.

    One of the great advantages of multicopters is there relative ease of pointing in any direction.

    Basically from what I can tell camera gimbal implementation is a bit behind and I think the most important thing that is needed is a capable developer to devote some significant time to bringing it up to snuff.

    There are certainly issues with servo control and digital servo jitters in addition to servo pins that are supposed to work that just don't. Let alone the new brushless gimbals.

    This section is in need of some serious work, but until APMcopter 3.0 firmware is released and pretty well debugged I don't think the resources are likely to be available to do much.

  • I don't think the word "typically" is the right description for panning the whole copter.  There are lots of 3-axis servo gimbals in existence.  Only the simpler setups don't have a discrete pan control.
