Joshua Ott commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Iris details: #1 The 4-1 ESC/Power Module
"CLERC,
I do not work at 3DR anymore, so I have no idea if this 4in1 is available as spares. I'm sure customer support can help you with that info, however.
:)"

Joshua Ott commented on keeyen pang's blog post What a simple orthomosaic and DEM can do
"Keeyen,
That is some heartbreaking work, my friend.
Slightly off topic: do you have any 'before' data? It would be interesting to put a different time scale on this information -- building a timelapse video showing this spread across the forest."

"Forrest, The parallel power wires are most likely for powering a gimbal.
Sounds like the ESCs should stay cool in your setup."

"Forrest,
The small red/black circuit is most likely for gimbal power, is it parallel to the battery inputs or 5v?
On question 2&3: Yes, Pixhawk Main Out 'S'(1-4) connect to 4-1 Pwm In, and ground wire connects between Pix Main Out ' - ' and 4-1…"

Joshua Ott replied to Pedals2Paddles's discussion Gimbal for GoPro inside waterproof case?
"Tamas,
Just to be clear, I have no intention of trying to sell this gimbal on its own, as it is quite specific for my airframe. I merely wanted to chime in on this thread and support the idea that using the waterproof GoPro housing as part of a…"

Joshua Ott replied to Pedals2Paddles's discussion Gimbal for GoPro inside waterproof case?
"I'm just designing this for the 3, because of the weight difference the parts would have to be changed to make a Hero2 balance. I'll post a thread showing how it all goes together and include CAD files for the parts. It shouldn't be too hard to…"

I'm not sure where they put the videos. I'm sure John cherbini or Chris can point you in the right direction, though."

"My design criteria are:

waterproof/dustproof
maintain video out
reasonably easy sd removal
no props even in 170* gopro
clear view on the tilt axis from nadir to zenith (for many inspection jobs this is critical)
quick change between gopro and…"

I've hired people smarter than me to figure out the software side of this puzzle, so I'm not sharing any of the gory details yet. However, there are many people working on this kind of thing at the moment. The localization is the critical…"

Joshua Ott commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Press Release – FAA to Consider Exemptions for Commercial UAS Movie and TV Production
"Yes, the FAA realizes that this market is not going anywhere, and they also realize that it is beyond the scope of their current capabilities to manage it. As we know, sUAS is going to be bigger than manned flight as far as quantity of vehicles in…"

Joshua Ott commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Press Release – FAA to Consider Exemptions for Commercial UAS Movie and TV Production
"Like I said, the key now is for us to create rules of operation based on our understanding and experience in this field. The FAA is involved and that's not going to just go away unless we create a structure to fill the vacuum."

Joshua Ott commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Press Release – FAA to Consider Exemptions for Commercial UAS Movie and TV Production
"We always knew that the regulations would grow out of the community of operators. Now is a critical time for all of us to perform our operations in a manner that instills trust with the public and the regulators. The FAA would love to responsibly…"
