3DR lifts off with powerful redesigned copters

3689572837?profile=originalWe are pleased to introduce our updated Quad, Y6, X8. Each of our new copters is built to support a Tarot brushless gimbal and GoPro HERO camera, providing an ideal platform for stable, jello-free imagery. These robust and flexible copters can take off and land anywhere.

Our new copters have been redesigned from the ground up to offer increased lifting power, enhanced flight time and greater responsiveness. Each of our aircrafts features Pixhawk, our most advanced autopilot system yet., as well as precise GPS navigation, built-in advanced processor and sensor technology from ST Microelectronics® and a NuttX real-time operating system. The result is incredible performance, flexibility, and reliability for autonomous flight.

All of our ready-to-fly copters arrive fully configured. Just unfold the arms and legs, attach the propellers, charge your battery, and you're ready to fly.

Open and flexible, our copters provide the ideal platform for simple enjoyment or innovative applications. Happy flying!

  • @ Sue Rosenstock:

In the post, you have mentioned "redesigned from the ground up to offer increased lifting power, enhanced flight time and greater responsiveness". However, nowhere have any specs been mentioned.

Could you post the specs on:

    - How much improvement there has been in each of the stated category??

    Thanks,

    Shyam

  • Ready to purchase either the new 2014 version of the 6 or 8. Can you tell me what the cargo capacity would be? Weight lift of a stock unit without the gimble and GoPro?

    Thanks

  • @moglos

Build a tower with a rod sticking out the front and hang your gimbal on that. Your gimbal is now on the top side of the copter.

  • Yes Please!!  Have a look at your shipping costs .. that is the main reason I don't buy direct from 3DR its crazy .. shipping for small items suck as FC and GPS the cost is about 40% of the cost of product .Regards Distant supporter..

  • I think the names should be changed to ARF from RTF since no radio trasmitter or telemetry are included.  Typically RTF "Ready to Fly" means take it out of the box, charge the battery and fly.  This is not the case with the 3DR RTF's with the exception of the missing in action IRIS.

+1 for the upgrade legs kit, I need enough height to put a gimbal under my 2013 Y6. Or does anybody know of a good option there?

And +1 for more sensible shipping. Why not just regular airmail for low value items (like a $20 set of legs). There is no point paying more than the cost of the parts for an express tracked insured service. (I'm glad to read that you're already looking into that.)

  • so the quad comes to $1,170 with xmitter and telemetry versus $749 for the IRIS with xmitter and telemetry?

is the only difference the larger battery and the voltage distribution for FPV and gimbal? I'm new at this but I can't see the extra $400+?

  • Hi. Been waiting for these.  Is there any videos or information about the payloads for the Y6 and X8? Im not super interested in just go pro. Is there any stress test information to give an idea if this copter can take any other weighted cameras?  It has jumped $400 in price...maybe due to battery inclusion and pixhawk upgrade?  Thanks! -P

I believe in you Sue. Now... how about some upgrade kits?

Maybe replacement legs, a GPS standoff mount, a plate adaptor, and a 4s battery option?

Then some instructions to swap the props around (include a link to new props) and to a PixHawk?

That would go a long way towards adapting existing gear for the new version, and would open your market for gimbals and other gear to the existing user base.
