Adding more features to IOBoard

IOBoard Let's make it better... We need testers...

Awhile ago we made first translating program for IOBoard and since that people have been using it as it was and/or modifying its open software. Now that we have more and more devices supporting FrSky telemetry, converting becomes more fun.

So let's make it. Current roadmap for IOBoard is:

- Have full support for MAVLink/FrSky conversion

- LED driver with configurable patterns

- OpenTX, er9X support

- TLD-02 display support

- Updated Configurator

Currently tested features on Taranis radio:

Heading, Temperature 1, Temperature 2 (shows satellites/fix type), Armed/Disarmed and Throttle values,

Lat/Lon, Altitude, Voltage, Cell volt (avg), Speed

jD-IOBoard can be found from jDrones store

Latest MAVLink/FrSky software is IOBoard_FrSkyMAVLink.v03a

software can also be found from arducodes repository at google code

Let us know how it works and if you have ideas, post it on..

  • Couldnt find anything about sbus in the code. Guess the vario sensor is need if you have the x8r RX. I know the sbus on the servo side has been reversed engineered, would be really cool if someone would hack the sbus on the telemetry side aswell.

  • So I discovered that if you want to run this firmware on an arduino pro mini you should only connect the vcc, gnd, and rx lines, If you leave the cts line connected it will prevent the 3dr radios from operating.  You may be able to connect rx as well I had already disconnected it before I disconnected the cts line.  It seems to be translating, and the gps position looks correct, however the fix and satellites are not correct.  I can collect some numbers if it would help.  This is on a taranis radio with a D4R-II receiver.

  • I believe you will need the vario sensor unless there is a deffination in the code you can change to tell it what protocol to use.  I have loaded the code onto an arduino pro mini and connected it to my D4R-II.  The board acts like the FSH-01 sensor hub, so whatever you need to do to connect the sensor hub you should be able to connect the io board the same way.

Interestingly I am having an issue where I am using both the 3dr telemetry radios and the IO board at the same time, the connection splits out at the io board and goes on to the radio, with the IO board in place the radio will not connect.  I will update more when I track down the issue. (It may be cable related)

  • Directly to the sbus telemetry port? Or do I need the vario sensor?

Nils yes you can use X8R too.

Justin, I think currently closest our distributor is in Canada

  • Is it possible to connect this to the X8R receiver shipped with the Taranis in any way? Or do you have to use the D8R-XP?

  • Is there a vendor for this board in or nearby the united states?  $11 shipping for a tiny $18 board is a bit much.

  • TOP TIP

Got V4 to load using Xloader but TOP TIP You need to give it a couple of minutes to start showing data. We thought it was not working but then after a few minutes ..................id did!

  • Welcome. Sorry for short messages. iPhone and was driving, well stopped at a light. All the best.
  • Thank you both ; LTMNO and Richard (DK)

To the Wider audience : Remember what seems obvious to you may not seem obvious to a beginner and you were a beginner once too!
