Amazon is hiring drone pilots

Calling all drone pilots.

Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) is looking for engineers to help test and develop Prime Air, its drone delivery service.

According to the job posting, candidates should have at least five years of experience flying drones. It helps if you can fly actual airplanes. The company lists a pilot's certificate among the "preferred qualifications" for the job.

Amazon first announced that it was working on delivering packages via drones last year.

  • But some guys just landed a drone on a comet. This should be cake.....:/

  • Aaah, the things the wealthy get to ramble about...I mostly worry about which household product is best for cleaning the bath. These guys worry about which rocket to use on their private spacecraft...

  • I agree it is "barking mad" my guess is there is some other angle for the project in reality. But then Besos recovered some F-1 Saturn 5 engines from the Atlantic and his "Blue Origin" Space project is pretty strange too. So it looks a lot like ramblings of the wealthy. Fun but not practical.

  • With regards to an autopilot system, it can't safely land a package for delivery at  someones home. Way too many things that would prevent that. Without being able to automatically see and detect every possible obstacle (humans, dogs, mailbox, bushes, trees, etc.), humans are the only method for safely landing such a vehicle at a random location.

  • Amazon also has other 'Prime Air' job openings. Interesting to see the collection of positions and where they are located.
