During my daily browsing session through the new products on DealExtreme I found that they are selling the APM 2.5 for US$ 75 including shipping.
No sign of a 3DR or other logo and also no mention of open source or open hardware. The price is about half of what they cost from the 3DR store. Wondering about quality, but since I already have one I am sure someone else is going to find out.

First batch of HobbyKings HKPilot sold out immediately and are only now no longer back-ordered . Thus far only positive reviews from users. I have a few of them and aside from top-entry only, have found no difference between them and my 3DR ones. But will purchase one of these also as second-source supply.
So, are the tech support sub-forums for APM hardware actually the way to begin addressing issues with 3DR hardware?
I had what appears to be a manufacturing defect in an APM1.4 board and posted there to see if I could get a resolution to the issue. An "old" board, I know, but unused till then. I figured that if this was the level of support available on 3DR products, then I'd take open-source at its fundamental and promptly ordered an APM2.5 from E-bay at $75 inclusive P&P.
It should be due any day now, so we'll see how good the Chinese are! Certainly the support should be just as good...
I agree with dionh, I have an arduflyer board with telemetry radio and GPS coming to RSA from RCTimer, the whole thing (excluding duty) was R1540 inc shipping. Netram are selling just the radio link for that price (ex shipping)...I'm prepared to take a bit of a risk, there are two guys at the flying "club" I attend that have these rctimer boards and they have had no issues.
Well let us know how you get on with it and how much the shipping and duty come to.
It will be even worse if it DOA from 3DR with a shipping of $50 The price from dealextreme is R750 and R2050 from netram that is a big deference.
Won't be good news if its DOA you can get real APM's in RSA BTW http://www.netram.co.za/Quadcopter-Components/Kits.html
This is good news since shipping to South Africa form 3DR is $50 I'm just wondering about quality. What can go wrong
Its always going to be buyer beware on these things.
