APM: The Universal Autopilot

3689420823?profile=originalI know this isn't news, but please indulge me a moment of pride in the APM dev teams. They have built the world's first "universal autopilot". The same hardware can fly all of the above--every kind of airplane, multicopter and helicopter, along with hardware-in-the-loop simulations--with one click to load new firmware in the Mission Planner. That's just amazing.

And if you want it to autonomously control a rover or boat, that's just a few more clicks

As far as I know, this has never been done before. Congrats to the whole APM dev team!

(And they're just getting started. You'll be blown away by what's coming...)

  • Great software! I hope somebody makes it available for the Mac.

  • It is truely an amazing stuff since about a month ago when i joined this group i have seen so much evolution that is unbleivable which proves true love from the contributors which i admire and appreciate. You have made me to go back to my old books on Maths and control notes and my university books ( I am a graduate of 80's). I have just finished preparing my first Blixer with Ardupilot Mega  that i have to find time and take it to our field to test fly it.

a big thank you to all the teams and contributors you all are doing a magnificent job !!!

  • Dev team is doing great job! That's really amazing!

Hi Johann, to address your issues
    1. The actual hardware is called ArduPilot Mega, so APM is actualy correct, although like you said it could refer to the software.

    2. I cant replicate this

    3. this is a chicken and egg scenario. i cant reverse the pwm value, because i dont know what it is. the switching sides was purely for refrence.

    4. if theres an error on anything it will prompt, just like all other parts of the planner.

    5. same as 4, and if there isnt a save box, then its done as you click it.
    6. this is a firmware issue at the moment that i have been looking into. (the fault is the apm is rebooting)

Kevin, we did release a limited number in May. We'll be releasing an updated version in a few weeks.

  • Chris, still waiting on the PhoneDrone boards to be available :(

It might even be worth taking the time to remove the references to May from the product pages...
