3689432775?profile=originalHi there! Finally you can pre-order the ArduIMU V3 here.. You can find more info abut it in my last post here

The final version of the board for full production is here, I'm expecting to start shipping them this Friday or Monday.

We are still working on documentation and giving the final cosmetic touches to the example code to have it ready before you have one in your hands and at the same time we are shipping samples to developers to do a full DCM integration.

From now on our new color will purple! All our new products will feature a Lilypad style look!

(Note: this is a stand-alone IMU, and is not designed to be a replacement for the "Oilpan" IMU shield of ArduPilot Mega.)

    Cronselaar: I'm sure it will be available from the South African distributor soon.

  • I'm sorry to say that i'm dissapointed in the price too... Was really looking forward to try and get the old legacy pilots to do something useful.

    Problem is that The Imu v3 costs $78 but your UPS economy costs $57 DOLLARS... THAT IS SCREAMING MAD!

    It Translated to South African Rand I can buy the whole APM+Oilpan for dubble the price in Rands from the SA distributer. That seems to once again keep the Legacies on my shelf catching dust.. 2 AP with no use... {Sigh}

    Any estimates as to when the boards will be shipped?

  • Thanks for the responses.  Just trying to get a "lay of the land" here.

  • @mike - yep you are right sorry. statement on it's own out of context didn't read so well :)

    @fab - sorry, I misunderstood because you said "have just started to sell imu" and left out most of the definite/indefinte articles from your sentence just prior as well, and were ambiguous about plural agreement. I assumed you meant "sparkfun have just started to sell IMUs" rather than "have just started to sell the APM Oilpan IMU board."

  • Hi Mike, My discussion related to questions about apm and apm imu (oilpan). Sparkfun have just started to stock the oilpan. Here is their press release from earlier this month http://www.sparkfun.com/news/741

    That being said, if you buy one and do something with it, you should take photos and share the code. Whatever you do with it will almost certainly be of interest to this community.

    IMUs are generally useful. You can, for example, shove an IMU, a battery, a controller, some steel bars and some motors and wheels together and build your own segway. You can shove an IMU into a hat and make a head tracker. You can put one in a round ball with cameras and use it to trigger a 360 photo.

    You've seen some of these applications. A fellow member here wrote a book called Arduino Robotics that has the complete build instructions for the home-made segway, and it uses an IMU from spark fun.

    IMUs are a general class of electronics these days, and DIYDrones sells a number of parts, like the ArduIMU and the PPM encoder that are generally useful parts. But unless you know you need it, you don't. If you are building ArduPlane or ArduCopter, get the parts described in the manual, namely the APM/Oilpan. The only time you need things like the PPM encoder or the ArduIMU is when you know exactly what you plan to do with it, and you know how to integrate it into your project.

    sparkfun have been selling IMUs for years. They have had a whole category of products and a navigation menu item for their IMUs for as long as I have been shopping there. I have four different IMUs from them.
