Convert any RC airplane into a fully-autonomous UAV!
Just add the APM 2 autopilot to any RC aircraft and it becomes a fully-programmable flying robot with a powerful ground station and Mission Planner.

Features include:

  • Return to Launch with a flick of your RC toggle switch or a mouse click in the graphical Ground Station
  • Unlimited 3D GPS waypoints
  • Built-in camera control
  • Fully-scriptable missions
  • One-click software load, and easy point-and-click configuration in the powerful Mission Planner. NO programming required!
  • Replay recorded missions and analyze all the data with a graphing interface
  • Supports two-way telemetry with Xbee wireless modules.
  • Point-and-click waypoint entry or real-time mission commands while the UAV is in the air
  • Fly with a joystick or gamepad via your PC--no need for RC control!
  • Built-in failsafe will bring your aircraft home in the case of radio loss

APM 2 is an open source, Arduino-compatible, pro-quality autopilot. It is the most advanced IMU-based open source autopilot available today, and provides an entire UAV control system with scriptable missions with 3D waypoints, in-flight uploading of commands and powerful ground station software.

APM 2 supports any kind of of vehicle with a one-click change of code. Available code include ArduPlane (fixed wing), ArduCopter (rotary wing), ArduRover (ground vehicles) and more.

Everything you need to create an ArduPlane UAV:

APM 2.5 autopilot with GPS ($179)

[Optional] Telemetry kit ($75).

You'll also need a at least a five-channel RC radio setup, a soldering iron, a mini USB cable and of course something that flies!3689354440?profile=original (We're partial to the SkyFun delta wing (right) and
Bixlee 2   powered glider (left) or its equivalents ourselves).

Note: ArduPilot Mega requires no programming, but it's open source and you're welcome to modify it if you'd like. If you are going to play with the code, you can use the free Arduino IDE to edit and upload the code to the ArduPilot board.

  • Chris I would like to add that I have been following along with you all day by day and have compiled and uploaded untold number of times in fact I have been working on my initial flight setup all day long. The "TEAM" has done a wonderful job.

Thanks . Hats Off to You All !!!

  • sorry Chris. I was trying to go thru my installation step by step but it was taking too long. At 70 i don't type as well as I used to. Cant see too well. I will work up a PDF and get back tomorrow . I hope.

As written ArduPilotMega will not compile if the "libraries" are not in the arduino-0019 's "libraries" file folder that is created when one extracts the "arduino-0019.zip" file.

my question to you is this; Could you possibly while developing/codding/debugging/etc. have these library files in the arduino's "libraries" folder? If you do that is the problem! If on the other hand you only have the standard "arduino packaged libraries" eleven in all in arduino's "libraries" folder , then you are wrong!

Check that folder and delet all but the eleven libraries you will see what we are seelig. It does not matter what preferences :

    looks like.

I have been around this tree a thousand times in the last three weeks.

Joeseph, I'm not sure what you're asking. What's the problem?
  • Ta-Da! You think I would have learned by now that restarting the PC is the first thing to try. Still thinking like a Mac user I guess. I never would have guessed that a restart would fix this particular problem, but it did! Thanks so much Chris for your help.

By the way, my PC still thinks all my old ArduPilotMega alpha files are in use, and won't let me delete them (even if I try to delete them right when my PC finishes booting up). I'm guessing that SVN somehow marked them as in use. If anyone can think of a fix to that problem, please let me know.
  • If you are refering to not being able to delete old ArduPilot files because the PC says they are in use, I have indeed tried restarting the PC. As for problem compiling the Beta version of the code, I have not tried a PC restart, but I have tried shutting down and restarting Arduino. I will try a PC restart right now.

Did you restart Arduino? Might want to reboot your PC too.
  • Is there any chance that SVN is messing me up? I uninstalled it when I saw that the Beta version was no longer an SVN download, and I noticed that my PC won't let me throw away any of my old Ardupilot files because it thinks they are in use (very annoying, and I am wondering if I will have to reinstall SVN just to be able to delete the files).
  • I included the IDE so that you can see it is bleeding red when I try to compile.
  • Yes, it's the contents of the Arduino folder in My Documents.

Dean, I can't tell from the screenshot, but can I assume that the directory shown is the ....\MyDocuments\Arduino one and not the \Application Data\Arduino one?
