Our ArduStation MEGA boards arrived today and I am truly excited to see how they work. Now starts small assembly job for them and then we can start doing testing for those.

Big thanks for Colin for his original ASM work, it's great to see what great minds can create.

New boards looks just awesome. Few connectors are missing but those are quickly soldered. These boards are from the first batch and we have them now small qty in stock. If there are any changes that needs to be made, we will do it and then first production batch will come.

Technical specs:

  • MCU: Atmel 2560 with Atmel 8u2 USB "adapter"
  • XBee footprint for telemetry with external pins
  • IO: Buzzer, Analog, I2C, GPS
  • SDCard holder for storage needs
  • 128 x 64 pixel Graphics LCD
  • 3 x TTL Serial output pins
  • 2 x Servo outputs with internal/external power feed

  • If it is so good documented like the previous one .... i can't put my money on something that I didn't saw working at full capacity.

  • Jani: what I ment was if I can connect a 3DR radio + a Bluetooth adapter. Using the 3DR radio to communicate with the multicopter, and the Bluetooth adapter to pass the MavLink data to a phone, tablet or computer at the same time.

Is it possible to get the dimensions so I can start to plan/design an enclosure?

Oyvind yes you can. You can connect what ever type modem as long as it uses RS-232 style communication, can talk with 57600 speed and uses 5volt. On production model we took out XBee headers to make more space for other modems than just XBees. Normal FTDI style connector will be there that you can connect your modems. XBee, RFD, 3DR, Bluettoth and so on.

  • Hi Jani, can something like this Bluetooth module be Connected to one of the Serial ports sending MavLink data to a computer, phone or tablet?

Looking forward to start playing With the New ArduStation

    Best

Should have today latest PCBs on our hand and after assembly we can go on pre-orders. No need to build it's all ready build (PCBs) as they are full of SMD that is hard for most of people to assemble. Hopefully have more information by tomorrow of their status.

  • Jani, one thing I'm wondering about is if attaching a keypad to the side would interfere with the USB connector or XBee antenna. I guess this is easier to gauge hands on though.

I agree, the keypad layout doesn't need to be the same as the original. Especially now we have the encoder. I get on well with my JR transmitter that has a line of buttons and navigates with the encoder - http://www.jixhobbies.co.za/images/PCM9XII.jpg

As for the wireless link, I was hoping to play with Melih's OpenBee at some point as it has the XBee footprint and runs on 433Mhz. It would be lovely if there were pads on the board so we can directly solder on the wireless module that Sparkfun carries, which looks pretty good value. Though I understand that you can't add every option and have to draw the line somewhere

And yes we are still looking different ideas for final keyboard models.
