Deer Trail Mayor Franks Fields displays proper drone-hunting technique. (Amanda Kost, 7NEWS)
Not sure if this says more about public perceptions of drones or about Colorado, but FWIW:
Deer Trail's town board will vote Aug. 6 on an ordinance that would create drone-hunting licenses and offer $100 bounties for unmanned aerial vehicles.
"We do not want drones in town," said Phillip Steel, the resident who drafted the ordinance. "They fly in town, they get shot down."
Even though it's against the law to destroy federal property, Steel's proposed ordinance outlines weapons, ammunition, rules of engagement, techniques and bounties for drone hunting.
Drone-hunting licenses would be issued without a background investigation and on an anonymous basis. Applicants would have to be at least 21 years old and be able to "read and understand English."
(Thanks, Eric)

I still say you should gather a posse and go circle the wagons and whatever else you new world folks do the weekend before and have the first and last drone festival there.
If I was not thousands of miles away in Africa I would go. You could spin positive stories out of the nonsense. I posted two search and rescue stories on sUAS News the day this broke. What would Mr Mayors opinion be if his son or daughter were lost and that was the only asset nearby.
I must say the photo of the mayor firing upwards has made me laugh. Would there not be a rule preventing anyone from just firing into the sky from a public street?? Unbelievable.
I wonder if the town has a stance on Google Glass.
Every time a state or someone in that state kicks up it must move them off the list of proposed UAS test sites at the FAA. Millions of lost dollars and tech research companies not arriving in state.
Boy that would be sad if Chris Anderson is taking a swipe at Colorado residents when he says "Not sure if this says more about public perceptions of drones or about Colorado", but it seems very much like he is.
Ignoring that very close minded generalization I can assure you a redneck mayor, who is even more close minded in his viewpoint, does not represent the majority of the state. We are for the most part highly educated, reasonable, and embrace technology and engineering. We have a growing aerospace industry which includes a good amount of drone and UAV research. So I assure you this has nothing to do with Colorado.
This guy is showing his ignorance and using his position to generate even more paranoia, which is sad because I know a good amount of farmers, out where his town sits, who are using drones for crop monitoring and other research.
Craig...the bright shiny thing which comes back most days is obviously a drone!
Notice that this long sighted Mayor is firing into the Sun.
What does he think he is going to hit... there's a bright thing there that doesn't belong in my town.
The photo shows the "mayor" (snicker...) in his silly hat (all hat, no cattle..) about to discharge a firearm on a roadway. It's too boring to look up, but I'll bet that's a violation of Colorado state law.
All the anti-drone banter in the US is clearly a media stir. If the media scares people about drones, more people will watch the news. Welcome to America.
Actualy it's a figgin crazy libertarian manefesto. That wasn't there yesterday?
BTW that town's web site hasn,t been updated since 2011
Don't mean nittin partner. Tounly plys to gubment drones.
Sounds like a challenge to me, But I doubt there would be any winners here/up there.
Some one has to be the prey. After all it is a hunting license:) Let's see them cook it and eat it!
That article is non sense. When random people start getting hurt from the bullet and as earth's gravity pulls it back down. I don't even think this is about shooting drones, we have a more serious issue at hand, I genuinely think these dudes don't know about gravity.
