Hi guys! I'm giving you a preview of an upcoming product from the DIY Drones store, the MinimOSD, a minimal Arduino-based on-screen display board. It's tailored for use with ArduPilot Mega and the MAVlink protocol, and designed to be as compact as possible.

It's main components are an ATmega328P 8 bit microcontroller with an Arduino bootloader, and a MAX7456 monochrome on-screen display. Programming is done through an FTDI-compatible 6-pin header.

It features two independent power and ground sections to isolate the OSD's analog stage: a +5V section for the ATmega and the OSD's digital stage, powered through the FTDI cable or other +5V source; and a regulated +5V section for the OSD's analog stage, powered through the video in/out header and capable of handling up to +12V input. Solder jumpers are available to combine the two power and ground sections if desired.

Spec lists are the best, so here's one!

  • Dimensions: 0.7"W x 1.7"L (2.4" w/ pins as shown) x 0.3"H

The production version won't be green, and we're not too fond of blue anymore, so expect something different on future products ;)

  • Neat design, good price (Remizbi price is low because he gets free engineering samples to build his OSD!)

    Q: Why is there an NTSC/PAL solder pad? the max chip can detect and tell the firmware what signal is currently getting in from the camera, and switch automatically. And default can be a startup option. Having to un-solder and re-solder when changing cameras would be impractical and many ground stations / video goggles etc automatically switch.

    Also, is there any hardware support for audio? for example adding vario tones? If the circuit is there, this is just one digital and a spare timer..

    If i were you i would order two or three, so that if one is lost, you will be sure to get one. :=)

     

    More seriously i didn't saw it on the store for preordering. So you'll have to check that each day to be sure to get  the first one...

     

    Being a DiyDrones client is a very hard task, when such nice products are released...

    Is the current code extracting that info? If so, can be seen on the Mission Planner?

  • @I.S.  : I  think   1 analog input is enough  for main controller receiver RSSI , XBee RSSI can be extracted from MAVlink, but the OSD should 2 RSSI displays .

    Really cheap. Heck, Remzibi is not much more and that includes GPS and Prolific cable. And there is already lots of work done to integrate it into APM. But, I am not familiar with APM or MavLink so I don't know what value that adds.
