3689388128?profile=originalHelicoblast over at the ArduPirates RCG thread answered a frequently-asked question on the various ArduPilot code bases with this great graphic.  The only small corrections I'd make is that the software the DIY Drones dev team (left column) is currently working on, which is an effort to sync up with ArduPilotMega (APM), the very mature full UAV code on fixed wing aircraft, is actually code-named ArduCopterMega (ACM).  It will be released with the month as ArduCopter 2.0.

Also, ArduCopterNG (next generation) and ArduCopter RC2 (release candidate 2) are actually the same thing. RC2 was just the public name for NG. The big blue arrow to the right means that further development of RC2 was handed off to the ArduPirates team while the DIY Drones dev team did a restart based on the APM architecture to achieve full UAV functionality with ArduCopter 2.0.

The ArduPirates code, which is what we recommend people use until ArduCopter 2.0 is released, is here.

  • Good to hear. My frustration is that parts are really spread out, and frequently out of stock. Sounds like things will improve.

It seems that any repair or build today needs the triumverate cooperation of DIYDrones store, FahPah/jDrones, and SparkFun, with a little Adafruit or Digikey/Mouser thrown in. Even then, it's impossible to buy a set of matching aluminum arms with one length and holes in the same places. :) A one-stop-shop would make shipping much more affordable and timely. (Why doesn't DIYDrones carry their own APM board, for example?)

I'd be much more adventurous with the Arducopter (Acro!) if I knew there was affordable stock of domes, arms, motor mounts..

Ground Loop, after Chinese New year is over here in Asia. better distribution to USA and other shops will start so jDrones is not only source.

And was said earlier we have separated our selfs from FahPah, this was done to ensure better deliveries and development. Starting from 26th of Jan of Feb FahPah does not have anything to do with ArduCopters or it's parts and deliveries.

  • Do you have an ETA ArduPilot Mega Copter code?
  • This isn't an area where I want to experiment with known-buggy beta code.  Bugs cost money and time (Thailand sources are the only ones in stock), as I already learned once.

But I am looking forward to trying new Ground Station software.  Configurator is great, but once you're in the air.. I'd at least like to see GPS coordinates or real-time readings on GPS Hold error distance and such.  I might try my hand at that, since it's low-risk. :)

  • now there is superstable 2.01 - the only problem that yesterday's zipfile does not work.

if you get cli mode to work then there is a new version.

the pirates do handle waypoints differently if i am right.

wow, then there is arducoptermega 1.01.

if the size of your copter is about the as the one from the ex. fahpah store then you can give it a try.

be shure to have spare props <G>

GroundLoop: You're right--that's another minor error. ArduCopterNG was publicly released as ArduCopter RC2.
  • Wait, so ArduCopter RC2 is *different* than ArduCopter NG?

    I can only find RC2:
