  • Yes, that was my thought.

My thoughts about DiyDrones main site: Videos & photos are important in their own right, but quite different than current news.  Videos and pictures imply (to me) projects, learning videos, etc.  While your Diy Drones News will be a repository of "hotter" information, current news and comments about things we're all interested in.  The blog in the middle of the main DiyDrone site is that kind of "hot" information mostly about projects and tech stuff.  I am picturing the "news" section to be the best of that, plus the best of current news about DIY Drones, etc.  To me it's the difference between TV/radio information and more in-depth print media information, with Diy Drones News being the "in-depth" area of reporting.

In that sense, maybe even a new link to "news", in addition to "Videos & Photos" would be warranted, although that real estate up there in those links is valuable, so that might be a tough sell!

    Just my thoughts...hope it helps!

  • Are you referring to the fact that you think the Video Tab should be changed to Diy Drones News (Or something of that sort) and the drop down menu should include Video's & Photo's?

  • I've actually been thinking about asking someone if I could have the Diy Drones News Center drop down menu on DiyDrones video tab take people directly to my website.  What was your idea on changing the DiyDrones Video Tab?  I'm going to talk to some important folks later tonight and pitch your idea to them so I just want to know as much details as possible.  You aren't the first person to ever tell me that they seldom go into the Videos tab on DiyDrones.

  • Hi Josh,

Okay...I just went over to DiyDronesNews.com and am impressed!  Teach me to fire without having all the facts!  I had not seen the site.  It looks appealing and makes one want to dive in to see more.  To me the newsletter is important enough to have it's own tab on DiyDronesNews with the index as a choice on the tab.  Unless you're thinking of it having it's own panel on the home page itself, which, in my opinion is even better!

What I was referring to was the original DiyDrones site.  So now, with a little updated knowledge, I'll modify my opinion:  The DiyDronesNews site should have it's own very prominent link on the original DiyDrones site.  It appears the new site will be a great addition to build an even wider community.

Only other feedback at this point is truly concentrate on relevant content (which it seems you're doing) as you build your reader/viewer ship.  Better production standards will come along as the site takes off, it's nice to have both, but content is king!  You're building a start-up publication business and the challenges are the same: too much work and too little money and time!  Just like 3D Robotics...

Hard work but exciting and the rewards in terms of personal accomplishment are huge...keep up the good work!

    Best,

    Mark

  • @Mark, Wait!!!! I understand totally what you're saying now.  You're talking about doing that on the Diy Drones Top Menu Bar.  I love the idea to make it more appealing.  But sadly I don't have access or the power :) to make changes to the Diy Drones Website like that.  If that were to happen it would have to go through an administrator of the website or Chris himself.

  • @Mark,

I'm working on DiyDronesNews.com as we speak.  Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly.  You think I should remove the Video page on DiyDronesNews and replace it with News Center and store these PDF their?! Also I'd love all the feedback and advice you can give on how I should move forward with the Newspaper/Newsletter and the website.

    Best Wishes,

    Josh

  • Here's my 2 cents worth...Change the Home page tab from Videos to News Center and place News Letter, Videos, and  Photos in the sub menu in that order.  I visit the site everyday and yet have only clicked on the Video tab a couple of times.  News Center sounds much more current and relevant than videos.  Videos are a yawn, we see them all in the blog center section in the first place, or at least that's the feeling I get.

My only other thought, after many years in sales and marketing, don't underestimate the time it will take to make to make it a relevant part of your offering.  If you're going to commit to a newsletter (or podcasts, You tube channel, etc.)  make a serious commitment to the time it takes to make the publication fresh, interesting, relevant, and most importantly, on time with whatever schedule you decide upon.

Like visiting a forum for the first time, if only a few of the posts are current and there is limited participation, it is my feeling most people will make a quick judgement and move on.

All of that said, I really like the idea and feel if done right it will be a great place to catch up on interesting "stuff".

  • Thanks Gary!,

I was thinking the same thing in terms of it being a valuable resource.  It might not be a valuable resource to people who check DiyDrones daily... But I assume people who don't view the site daily tend to miss out on a lot of important blogs.  I'm still trying to decide where I want to index all the Issues/Volumes.  Do you have any suggestions on a place to do it?  I was thinking either the Diy Drones News Center Page under the Video Tab or my website/project DiyDronesNews.com.  Providing the link to each blog will definitely be in Volume 2 and beyond.

    Thanks Again,

    Josh

  • I think this is a great idea Joshua,

Even if many of the articles are just reprints of important Blog entries this could be a valuable resource.

If you can provide a decent indexed access to back issues (and their contents), this could become an important source for people looking for information that gets so quickly lost in the normal Blog Posts.

Probably also a good idea to include a link to the original Blog for those people who want to research further too.

    Great Job,

    Gary

  • @AS, I created this to allow people to take Diy Drones content print it out, read it, and share it with others.  After the first couple volumes the majority of the stories will be fresh new stories written by Diy Drones News Journalists.
