DIY Drones - South African Chapter first general meeting

Hear ye! hear ye! On this 5th day of the month of February in the year 2010 it happened, the first get together of the South African Chapter of DIYDrones!

I would say it turned out very successful, starting off very informal then quickly turning in to a storm of ideas lasting quite a few hours. Hopefully the first of many!

Sarel will post some more info on ideas and decisions made.

Thank you to Sarel and Gary!

We decided to launch a competition in South Africa. This is loosely based on the Outback challenge. We have wide open spaces, large areas of uncontrolled airspace and a small enthusiastic community. Insead of Outback Joe we have a damsel in distress, her name is Sam. We call her Namakwa Sam. Namakwaland is part of the arid North West of South Africa where we are staging the competition.

Namakwa Sam, on the left naturally :)

This area forms quite an important part of the key concept of our competition, as well as Mid September when the veld(open plains) are covered with a carpet of flowers :) Namakwaland in the North western part of South Africa
Also see Namakwaland pictures and info as well as Namakwaland

The challenge will be to find Namakwa Sam in this area. She will be wearing an Orange bikini in the orange flower fields :) A damsel in distress. You will be standing in the middle of a 1Km radius circle and she will be somewhere in this circle, go find her!

Is the competition in mid-September then? I will see if we can make an Angolan entry seeing as we are not too far away!

Sarel, you are making it difficult by using orange for both , use different colors or loose it, there is no fun if no one wins(clearly not technically), let me see if I can make it too ,
Hooks , you stole my words , :)) , though it looks like mug or bottle of strong brew ;-) between the three of muskateers , Sam i another story. cheers
